Wedding Film FAQs

What is a documentary wedding videographer?

A documentary wedding videographer focuses on capturing real moments as they naturally happen, rather than staging or directing the day.

At Love and Legacy Films, this approach allows couples to stay fully present with their loved ones while the filmmaker quietly documents the emotion, laughter, and meaningful moments that unfold. The final film tells the story of the day in a way that feels authentic and deeply personal.

How long is a typical wedding film?

Wedding films can vary depending on the storytelling style. Highlight films are typically 3–6 minutes, while documentary-style wedding films may range from 10–20 minutes to fully capture the day's story. At Love and Legacy, we are also open to feature-length films that fully incorporate ceremonies, speeches, and notes from loved ones!

Our films are crafted to preserve the emotional moments, voices, and atmosphere that couples will want to remember for decades.

When should you book a wedding videographer?

Most couples book their wedding videographer 8–12 months before their wedding, especially for peak wedding seasons.

Documentary filmmakers who take on a limited number of weddings each year often book even earlier. Once your venue and wedding date are confirmed, it’s a good idea to begin reaching out to videographers whose work resonates with you.

Do you offer drone services?

Yes! Drone coverage is included in our Love & Legacy Documentary and Destination packages. For The Highlight package, drone coverage can be added for $500, weather and venue permitting.

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes. Love and Legacy Films films weddings across the United States and offers destination weddings.

Travel is included within 50 miles of our base locations. Beyond that: • $1.00 per mile for distances over 50 miles (round-trip) • Lodging fee of $150/night per team member for distances over 125 miles • All travel fees included in our Destination Package

We frequently document weddings in California, Colorado, and Texas, and we love working with couples who are celebrating in meaningful locations.

Is hiring a wedding videographer worth it?

Many couples say their wedding film becomes one of the most meaningful keepsakes from their entire wedding day. While photographs capture beautiful moments, video preserves the voices, movement, and emotion of the day.

A wedding film allows you to hear your vows again, watch your parents’ reactions during the ceremony, and relive the celebration with family and friends. For many couples, the film becomes part of their family history, something future generations can experience long after the wedding day has passed.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

If you need to reschedule or cancel your wedding, no problem! We can either postpone or cancel your booking. Just keep in mind that 50% of the total wedding package value is non-refundable. For rescheduling, we kindly ask that you notify us at least a month in advance so we can adjust accordingly.

Legacy Film FAQs

What is a Legacy Film?

A Legacy Film is a professionally produced documentary that preserves the life story, memories, and wisdom of someone you love. Many people ask, 'How can I record my parents’ life story?' 'What is the best way to preserve family history?' 'Can I hire someone to interview my grandparents about their life?' Thats where we come in. Through guided interviews, natural conversation, and cinematic storytelling, a Legacy Film captures personal experiences, family traditions, and meaningful life lessons on film. At Love and Legacy Films, these stories are combined with family photos, home videos, and music to create a lasting documentary that future generations can watch and learn from.

Who are Legacy Films typically made for?

Legacy Films are often created for parents, grandparents, friends, or loved ones whose life experiences and stories hold deep meaning for you. Many families commission a Legacy Film as a gift for milestone birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, or family reunions. Others choose to create one simply to preserve family history while their loved ones can still share their memories and perspective.

What kinds of stories are shared in a Legacy Film?

Legacy Films often explore childhood memories, family traditions, important life moments, and the lessons someone has learned throughout their life. Many people share stories about how they met their spouse, how their family began, the challenges they overcame, and the wisdom they want future generations to carry forward. Each film becomes a deeply personal portrait of a life told in the subject’s own words.

How is a Legacy Film created?

The process usually begins with a guided interview filmed in a comfortable and meaningful location. During the conversation, your loved one shares stories about their life, family, and experiences. These interviews are then carefully edited together with family photographs, archival footage, and music to create a cinematic documentary that feels both intimate and timeless.

Why create a Legacy Film now?

Memories and stories can fade over time, and many families realize too late that they never recorded the voices and experiences of the people who shaped their lives. Creating a Legacy Film ensures that those memories are preserved while they can still be told. The result becomes a treasured family heirloom that allows children, grandchildren, and future generations to hear the stories directly from the people who lived them.
